President Bill Vermouth welcomed all to the November 15th meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the American Legion in Brattleboro. He asked members who participated in the VT Foodbank project and the Lighting Up Brattleboro Project to welcome members and guests to the meeting. For the invocation, John Mabie recited “Invocation by Victor Hugo”:
Say, Lord! for Thou alone canst tell Where lurks the good invisible
Amid the depths of discord’s sea–
That seem, alas! so dark to me!
Oppressive to a mighty state,
Contentions, feuds, the people’s hate–
But who dare question that which fate
Has ordered to have been?
Haply the earthquake may unfold
The resting-place of purest gold,
And haply surges up have rolled
The pearls that were unseen!
This was followed by the pledge of allegiance. Birthday greetings were extended to Carl Lynde, Tom French, and Bill McKim
As a luncheon maple chicken legs, pork loin, squash lasagna, boiled potatoes, broccoli, salad, bread and chocolate chip cookies for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.
