WELCOME

President Greg Worden welcomed a big crowd of folks to the May 12th meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the American Legion in Brattleboro. Teri Keizer offered a meaningful invocation.   This was followed by the pledge of allegiance. Birthday greetings were extended to John Kohler.

 
As another kosher luncheon of roasted pork, tofu, green beans, potatoes, salad and housemade chocolate cookies for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.

ROTARY MINUTE

 

For the Rotary minute, Marty Cohn told about an example of Rotary in Motion.  After Brattleboro Rotary Club made a presentation to the Rotary Club of Henniker, NH about Pine Ridge, Henniker decided to gather quilting material – 6000 pounds. Working with Rotarian Dana Lewis, the material was shipped and delivered to scores of Pine Ridge residents.  And, when the truck was emptied of the quilting material, there were eight new sewing machines!

  • Brattleboro Rotary Club finished first at Bowl for Kids Sake over Sunrise Rotary.  Note, Brattleboro Rotary Club bowlers were already leaving when Sunrise Rotary was still bowling.

Big Brothers Big Sisters all started in 1904, when a young New York City court clerk named Ernest Coulter was seeing more and more boys come through his courtroom. He recognized that caring adults could help many of these kids stay out of trouble, and he set out to find volunteers. That marked the beginning of the Big Brothers movement.
