President Jeff Hagstrom welcomed all to the April 27th meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the American Legion in Brattleboro. John Kohler offered a meaningful invocation. This was followed by the pledge of allegiance. Birthday greetings were extended to Phil George.
As a luncheon of grilled chicken, black beans, rice, carrots, salad, and cookies for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.

For our Rotary joke, Milt Gilmore told a version of the following:
On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in the midst of the French Revolution the revolting citizens led a priest, a drunkard and an engineer to the guillotine. They ask the priest if he wants to face up or down when he meets his fate. The priest says he would like to face up so he will be looking towards heaven when he dies. They raise the blade of the guillotine and release it. It comes speeding down and suddenly stops just inches from his neck. The authorities take this as divine intervention and release the priest. The drunkard comes to the guillotine next. He also decides to die face up, hoping that he will be as fortunate as the priest. They raise the blade of the guillotine and release it. It comes speeding down and suddenly stops just inches from his neck. Again, the authorities take this as a sign of divine intervention, and they release the drunkard as well. Next is the engineer. Club’s annual meeting was conducted and the following slate was voted unanimously: President: George Weir, President-elect: Bill Vermouth, Vice President: Marty Cohn, Secretary: Ana Saavedra, and Treasurer: Rhonda Calhoun. Avenue of Service Directors will be Stan Nowakowski (Community Service), Dave Twombly (Club), Betsy Gentile (Youth/New Generation), Carla Lineback (Foundation), Rob Szpila (International), and Ted Kramer (Membership).
Wendy Harrison had a successful “walk of shame” fundraiser.
Don’t forget to introduce yourself to Aaron Rich and Ricky Davidson (who did not attend today) so that you don’t have to take “the walk of shame.”
