President Greg Worden welcomed all to the January 21st meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the American Legion in Brattleboro. John Meyer offered a meaningful invocation. This was followed by the pledge of allegiance. Birthday greetings were extended to Gary Goodemote and Milt Gilmore.
As a luncheon of a Thanksgiving dinner with all the fixin’s and house-made brownies for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.
Guests: Visiting Rotarian Joanne LeMieux (Lebanon, NH), Caitlyn Wilkinson, and two students from SIT.

For our Rotary joke, Jeff Hagstrom told versions of the following:
Two engineering students were walking across campus when one said, "Where did
you get such a great bike?" The second engineer replied, "Well, I was walking along yesterday minding my own business when a beautiful woman rode up on this bike. She threw the bike
to the ground, took off all her clothes and said, "Take what you want." "The second engineer nodded approvingly, "Good choice; the clothes probably wouldn't have fit."
Three engineering students were gathered together discussing the possible designers of the human body. One said, "It was a mechanical engineer. Just look at all the joints." Another said, "No, it was an electrical engineer. The nervous system has many thousands of electrical connections." The last said, "Actually it was a civil engineer. Who else would run a toxic waste pipeline through a recreational area?"
Bubba and Billy Ray, both mechanical engineers, were standing at the base of a flagpole, looking up. A woman walked by and asked what they were doing. "We're supposed to find the height of the flagpole," said Bubba, "but we don't have a ladder." The woman took a wrench from her purse, loosened a few bolts, and laid the pole down Then she took a tape measure from her pocket, took a measurement, announced, "Eighteen feet, six inches," and walked away. Billy Ray shook his head and laughed. "Ain't that just like a blonde? We ask for the height and she gives us the length!"
ROTARY MINUTE
For the Rotary minute, Rob Szpila followed up on last week’s minute about a Rotary clinic in Pakistan that was firebombed, by inviting two SIT students from Pakistan to give their view on how this could happen. They informed us that to the Taliban, polio vaccines are thought of as a covert family planning method, as well as being anti-Islam. Fred Moriarty proposed a fine on Marty Cohn for misspelling his name in last week’s weekly bulletin. Marty’s defense and counter fine to Fred was the disclaimer at the bottom of each week’s bulletin. The members voted to fine Marty but not Fred. ED NOTE: This proves that no good deed goes unpunished.
