A man and woman were married for 40 years. When they first got married, his new wife told the man, "I put a box under the bed. Promise me you will never to look in it." In all their 40 years of marriage, the man never looked. On the afternoon of their 40th anniversary, curiosity got the best of him and he lifted the lid and peeked inside. In it were 3 empty beer cans and $187.25 in cash. He closed the box and put it back under the bed. Now that he knew what was in the box, he was doubly curious as to why there was such a box and with those contents. That evening, they were out for a special anniversary dinner. After dinner, he could no longer contain his curiosity and he confessed, saying, “I'm so sorry. For all these years, I kept my promise and never looked into the box under our bed. However, today the temptation was too much and I gave in. But now I need to know, why do you keep the 3 beer cans in the box?” The woman thought for a while and said, "I guess after all these years you deserve to know the truth. Whenever I was unfaithful to you, I put an empty beer can in the box under the bed to remind myself not to do it again.” The man was stunned and said, “I am very disappointed and saddened but I guess during those years when I traveled away from home on business temptation would happen and three times is not too bad considering all the years.” He said, ” I guess I can forgive you.” His wife thanked him for being so understanding. They hugged and made their peace. A little while later the man asked his wife, "So why do you have all that money in the box?”

She answered, "Well, whenever the box filled up with empties, I took them to the recycling center."
