WELCOME

President George Weir welcomed all to the November 2^nd meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at New England Center for Circus Arts in Brattleboro. John Mabie offered the following meaningful invocation:

A DAY WORTHWHILE

I count that day as wisely spent

In which I do some good

For someone who is far away

Or shares my neighborhood.

A day devoted to the deed

That lends a helping hand

And demonstrates a willingness

To care and understand.

I long to be of usefulness

In little ways and large

Without a selfish motive

And without the slightest charge.

Because in my philosophy

There never is a doubt

That all of us here on earth

Must help each other out.

I feel that day is fruitful

And the time is worth the while

When I promote the happiness

Of one enduring smile.

This was followed by the pledge of allegiance.

Today’s luncheon was provided by McDonald’s and served by Larry Johnson, Brand Ambassador for the Napoli Group. It included chicken wraps, salads, apple pie, cookies, and water. ED NOTE: The luncheon fee collected today will be donated to the Rotary International Hurricane Relief.

JOKE OF THE WEEK

For our Rotary joke, Gina Pattison told a version of the following jokes:

A man and a friend are playing golf one day at their local golf course. One of the guys is about to chip onto the green when he sees a long funeral procession on the road next to the course. He stops in mid-swing, takes off his golf cap, closes his eyes, and bows down in prayer.

His friend says: “Wow, that is the most thoughtful and touching thing I have ever seen. You truly are a kind man.”

The man then replies: “Yeah, well we were married 35 years.”

ROTARY MINUTE

For our Rotary minute, Aaron Rich reflected on his first year as a Rotarian. He then asked Immediate Past President Jeff Hagstrom to tell us his best moment all his 28 years as a Rotarian. Jeff fondly remembered accepting Greg Worden’s invitation to become club president. ED NOTE: Jeff was sitting on a beach enjoying many adult drinks at the time.

Student Rotarians from Boys & Girls Club, Leland & Gray, Career Center and Hinsdale introduced themselves.
The Putney Road Bottle/Can Redemption is holding a contest for most deposits by a non profits in November. Winner get $0.065 per bottle / can. Remember, all monies for Brattleboro Rotary Club go to Pure Water for the World.
The first Seasonal Overflow Shelter meal will be served by the club on 11/27. Volunteers still needed. See Stan Nowakowski.

Brattleboro Outing Club’s annual ski/skate/snowboard sale is on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Gibson-Aiken Center.
