Theresa bragged about her daughter who just turned 1 the other week. She also wanted to brag for herself who just got invited to a 5-day Hackathon. Very few women are invited. Theresa was asked to explain what a Hackathon was and she explained that in tech you are given a system and you try to break into it.
Bill bragged for his daughter. She was promoted to Senior Editor of Investigations, Justice and Equity for GBH in Boston a few years ago. Since that time, she has been awarded the Edward R Murrow Annual Award 3 times. The third award will be awarded to her in New York City in October. Bill is very proud of her.
Cheri Ann bragged about the trip she took to Detroit last week, which is why she was not able to be at Rotary. She attended a Caribbean Festival, and it gave her one of the best feelings she has had in a long time, and the trip also gave her one of the worst feelings she has had in a long time. At the Caribbean Festival it was great to see that there are still some places that welcome immigrants. It is an organization that represents the whole Caribbean. It was great music and great food. They had the option to wear their national dress and show off a lot of things that they are about and what they contribute to their communities. The bad part of the trip was that she got to see her younger sister, and it was the worst thing she saw in her life. Her sister does not know who she is, or who Cheri Ann is or who her son is. Cheri Ann did not know that she was that bad, and she is her younger sister. Cheri Ann feels that we need to find out more about what is going on here and why. There is so much we do not know. We should be finding out about us.
Gina bragged that her son Jack, who plays baseball at St. Michael’s College and is a senior this year, was just named Captain of the baseball team.
Carla bragged $2. The first was for Rudy who reminded her with his Rotary Minute that Gloria Steinem passed away, and Carla’s chat was blowing up this morning with stories and memories of her. Rudy’s Rotary Minute was very timely. The second brag was for an SIT alum who for a long time has done humanitarian work in North Korea and she just recently published a book and will be on campus on Monday, 9/28 at 4:00. Everyone is invited.
Cheri Ann had an addendum to her brag. The reason she attended the Caribbean Festival was at the invitation of Imogene Drakes. She is a friend who has recently published her 4th book, Around the World in 42 days. It is a really good travel book. She was honored at the festival. If it hadn’t been for her, Cheri Ann would not have been there.
Frank bragged for the educators in the community. School opened up last week with a little less than 3,000 kids in 10 schools across the region. It was a great opening. They do their Admin Retreat in August to plan for school opening. It is just remarkable how the kid’s proficiency in literacy and math and science is just taking off. They have a great leader in Mark Speno. He is very focused on learning and student growth, and it is working. Frank bragged for all the Rotarians who support the public school system.
Nina hasn’t been here recently because she has been away from work, but before that, her youngest, Adam, was on the All Star Team for Brattleboro which won the State Championship and went on to Regionals in Rhode Island which was a wild ride.
Rudy bragged for BCTV who allowed the Public Health Office to launch a new public health talk show called “That’s Not Public Health, Is It?” Their first episode launched this week about isolation and loneliness.
Governor Ruth had the pleasure of meeting the incoming exchange students last weekend. They are a great group of kids and they are bonding well. If we have a chance, we should get one of them here to speak.
