President George Weir welcomed all to the August 31st meeting of the Brattleboro Rotary Club held at the American Legion in Brattleboro. (ED NOTE: President George stil needs to work on his microphone skills).Teri Keizer offered a meaningful invocation. This was followed by the pledge of allegiance. Birthday greetings were extended to Rhonda Calhoun and Art Greenbaum.
As a luncheon of baked chicken, black beans, carrots/zucchini medley, white rice, green salad, and cookies for dessert was being digested, the meeting continued.
Guests: Visiting Rotarians Burl Penton (Leland, NC), Michael Knight (Montpelier), and Lissa Weinman (Sunrise); Sue and Art Greenbaum, Cindy Jerome son, Jesse, NY 5th District Circuit Court Judge Karen, Marni Rosner (speaker) and Marni’s son and daughter in law, David and Anna.

A guy took his blonde girlfriend to her first American football game. They had great seats right behind their team’s bench. After the game, he asked her how she liked the experience.“Oh, I really liked it,” she replied, “especially the tight pants and all the big muscles, but I just couldn’t understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents.”Dumbfounded, her date asked, “What do you mean?”“Well, they flipped a coin, one team got it and then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was: ‘Get the quarterback! ROTARY MINUTE
For our Rotary minute, John Meyer told us about a fundraiser employed by a number of Rotary clubs, “100 for 100” whereby 100 artists are selected and given a 10-by-10 canvas. They create a work of art on it and then donate it back to organization. Each of the 100 pieces sells for $100. The artists can do anything they want — foam, ceramics, wood, fabric — although most are standard paintings. Only 100 participants are invited with a registration fee of $100. Everyone leaves with a painting.

Jenifer Ambler presented Marni Rosner. Marni is a semi retired high school teacher and Putney resident who first visited China as a teenager in 1971, and has lived, taught, raised a family, and travelled extensively in China and SE Asia in the four subsequent decades. She served on the Board of Trustees of the Jane Goodall Institute- China. Marni told us about baby boomer artists in China. Among the artists she discussed was He Doling.
