The Brattleboro Rotary Club recently presented checks totaling $18,000 to three local youth programs -- $5,000 to the Vernon Recreation and Parks Department, $5,000 to the Boys and Girls Club of Brattleboro, and $8,000 to the Gateway Scholarship program for graduating seniors at local high schools.

On hand at the August 19th meeting to accept the checks were Joan Kritsas, chair of the Vernon Recreation and Parks Department; Dr. Robert Nassau, chair of the Boys and Girls Club; and John Mabie, chair of the Gateway Scholarship program.

Funds were raised through the Rotary Club's annual Charity Golf Tournament, which takes place every June at the Brattleboro Country Club. Many local businesses and individuals generously donated their support to the tournament by golfing, sponsoring tee signs, donating to the silent auction, or sponsoring the event overall.

According to Brattleboro Rotary Club member Cathy Coonan, chair of the Golf Tournament Committee, "The Brattleboro Rotary Club has been working on projects in the community for more than 55 years, and we are very grateful for the support we receive from local golfers, community members, and businesses."
